Overview of the Art Curriculum

The Art program is offered to all students from preschool through grade eight. The elements of design (line, shape, form, texture, value, space, and color) are taught throughout the grade levels using a variety of media. An understanding and appreciation of Art History is gained by exploring the styles and techniques of the great masters, as well as contemporary artists. Students are encouraged to express themselves and be proud of their work.

Lessons are designed to increase students’ awareness of the different kinds of art through various techniques, methods and media. A wide range of experiences help them to appreciate the art found throughout their daily lives.. Whenever possible, the students create artwork to coincide with lessons studied in other classes, such as social studies, history, and language arts.
