An Overview of the Spanish Curriculum
The Spanish curriculum is offered for students in pre-kindergarten through grade eight. The emphasis is on vocabulary, basic grammar and usage, and learning conversational phrases, all according to grade level. Our students learn the elements of and develop an appreciation for Hispanic culture, including some religious practices, holidays, prayers, music, and art. Instruction in Spanish varies, but includes lecture, group, internet, and other types of instruction. Coloring, games, and stories all help the children experience ways of using the Spanish language. The SMA Spanish curriculum is based on the standards set forth by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Diocese of Springfield, and it also includes the national standards of communication, culture, comparisons, and connections in the teaching of a foreign language.
